Frequently Asked Questions

Do Eveque climbing mats conform to the current safety requirements and test methods?

Eveque climbing and bouldering matting are all designed and manufactured to conform to BSI EN 12572-2:2017 Artificial Climbing Structures: Safety Requirements.

We use only the highest quality materials, including combustion-modified foams, flame-retardant and UV-rated PVC, and high-strength polyester threads. All of our climbing mats are manufactured in our UK factory to the highest standards.

We are also members of the Association of British Climbing Walls (ABC) and Sports & Physical Education (PE) Association UK to make sure all of our climbing and sports mats follows the latest safety regulations.

What are your lead times?

Our lead times can vary depending on the size of the job, our factory schedule, and the availability of materials. We will always do our best to give you a clear indication of the lead time for each job. For smaller areas, our lead times are around 4 to 6 weeks, and for larger installations, they are around 6 to 8 weeks. Please call us on 01606 353550 to discuss your specific requirements.

What do you offer as part of your service?

Our experienced design team will work with you to ensure that you have the best specification, layout, and installation plan to meet your needs. If you are planning a project and would like to speak to one of our team members, please call us on 01606 353550.

Specification: Our designers can discuss all options with you and help you choose whichever specification suits your needs best.

Site survey: We are available to come to your climbing centre to take highly accurate measurements for the matting using specialist EDM surveying equipment.

Design: Our design team will draft the climbing matting and carpet layout diagrams to ensure all safety requirements are met.

Manufacturing: Once the drawings are approved, all of the climbing matting will be manufactured in our UK factory by our experienced production team.

Installation: We offer three installation options that you can choose from:

  • Customer self-installation: We only recommend this for smaller areas or simple layouts; however, with this option, we provide instructions and are available for consultation during the process.
  • Eveque supervision: We work with your team to install your climbing mats. From our experience, this is often the most efficient method, as it brings the cost down and helps your team understand how the matting system works. Many customers have reported that they really benefited from this option.
  • Full installation: Our experienced team can fully install your climbing matting for you.

Warranty: We offer a 12-month warranty in the case of manufacturing or installation errors.

Aftercare: Our service does not end there; after the installation, we will keep your climbing matting drawings on file and can provide replacement sections as and when needed. As well, we are available for advice on climbing matting care and maintenance, so if you have any questions, just give us a call at 01606 353550.

Can you manufacture climbing wall matting from my drawings?

In some cases, yes, we can manufacture from your drawings; however, we would normally recommend this only for smaller climbing walls or a design with a simple layout.

What is the price for your climbing matting and climbing safety mats?

Eveque climbing matting and climbing safety mats are all competitively priced. We also offer discounts on trade and large projects. Please contact us at 01606 353550 to discuss your requirements.

What are the differences between the internal foam specifications?

At Eveque, we offer three standard specifications of foam inners:

Dual Density: Bonded Inner Layers Dual Density: Loose Inner Layers

Single Density

9.5mm Polypropylene carpet topper

30mm, 10lb. Recon foam

270mm, 33kg Poly foam

610g FR PVC

We believe that our dual density with bonded inner layers is our hardest-wearing of the three specifications. It is our firmest and most durable climbing matting that we offer.

9.5mm Polypropylene carpet topper

100mm, 6 lb. Recon foam

200mm, 33kg Poly foam

610g FR PVC

Dual density with loose inner layers is our most popular specification that many of the large climbing gyms use. It has a medium-to-firm feel and is easy to maintain, with the top layer being easy to change if needed.

9.5mm Polypropylene carpet topper

300mm, 33kg Poly foam

610g FR PVC

Single-density foam is a cheaper option that can be a good choice for sites where there is not such a high footfall or for schools, scouts, guide groups, etc. Some large climbing centres have opted for this specification over the dual density option because it is the softest climbing matting  that we offer.

Should I use carpet-topped or PVC-topped climbing wall matting?

Both PVC and carpet-topped mats have their specific applications.

Carpet-topped climbing matting are the most commonly used climbing matting in the UK; they provide extra durability, look good in both commercial and domestic situations, and are particularly good at dealing with chalk.

PVC climbing mats are useful in applications such as schools and clubs where there is a lower footfall; they are wipe-clean and cheaper than carpet-topped mats. PVC mats can also be useful in outdoor applications where water resistance is needed.

Are Eveque mats suitable for outdoor use?

If you need outdoor climbing matting, please contact us, and we’ll be able to design something that works for your particular project. Two particular details to consider for outdoor bouldering and climbing matting are: raising the mats on a pallet-type base to prevent damp from rising into the mats; and covering the mats with a custom-welded PVC wear sheet to provide additional rain protection.

What extra options are available?

We offer the following extras and options:

  • Wall joining strips: In certain positions, such as vertical or slab walls, unwanted gaps can open up between the wall and the mat edge. We can provide wall joining strips that can prevent this from happening. Our designers will work with you to make sure they are added in the appropriate places.
  • Re-enforced mat edges: High-density edges for extra durability are available on request.
  • Custom printing: We have the facility to print the facia edges of your mats to incorporate your logo or design.
  • Additional protection for high-wear areas:
    • Carpet wear sheets are suitable for areas of constant footfall, such as entrances or doorways.
    • Internal re-enforcing, similar to edge re-enforcing for areas such as fingerboards or entrances. Internal higher-density foam can be added to compensate for the higher wear in these areas.
